Overview

Dr. May Alarab completed a three-year fellowship in urogynaecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery at the University of Toronto, where she also earned a Master of Science degree. Her master’s research investigated the etiology of pelvic organ prolapse in young women, with a particular focus on the extracellular matrix of vaginal tissue. Conducted within the Division of Urogynaecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, her research contributed to a better understanding of the pathophysiology of pelvic organ prolapse.

Dr. Alarab established and leads the first one-stop Perineal Clinic for postpartum anal sphincter injuries at Mount Sinai Hospital. In this specialized clinic, she provides comprehensive care for patients affected by obstetric anal sphincter injuries after childbirth, including detailed clinical assessment, endoanal ultrasound, counselling, and individualized planning for future pregnancies and mode of delivery.
